hello i’m craig… craig of craig’s list

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

i recently found out that craig of craig’s list lives down the street. just a normal computer programer who rides the n-judah like me and drinks coffee at a coffee shop.

in a city only 7 miles wide by 7 miles long and 750,000 people deep, i have a feeling there are more influential people within my fingertrips than i realize.

without the ‘e’ please

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

i googled my name today. always interesting to see what might pop up on the black hole of the internet abyss…interesting enough, i found not just a jill, but another jill sorenson  who is from kansas, now lives in california, and writes. (note: her sorenson is with an ‘e’ and mine is without) but here’s the kicker… she writes romance novels… hot romance, cool suspense… how very similar and very not similar at the same time.

return to india…

hungry eyes

yes, that’s right.
I’m going back.
September 6th - 22nd I’m returning to India.
This time, not as an intern or staff,
but as an eMi project volunteer.
which means 16 days instead of 317…
which means 2 train rides instead of 26…
which means 1 stomach virus instead of 4.

It all kind of happened so quickly…
They emailed me in need of an architect for a campus plan/school design
to serve orphans and children of leprosy parentage.
My initial reaction was ‘no’…
I don’t have the funds, schedule, or stamina for India again.
But then I realized I needed to remember the purpose again ’cause sometimes I forget…
and we all need a widened perspective…
and eMi operates on the grace of people willing to volunteer…
and all children need an opportunity to be loved and be offered hope.
So I said ‘yes!’
And they said ‘yeah!’
now, the rest is merely details.

But the details are kind of important…

For more information about eMi, please click here.
For a summary on the project trip I will be on, please click here.
For my stories and writings from the year I lived in india, please click here.

Because this trip was not something I was planning on,
and because I’d like to gather extra money to contribute to the building,
and because I’ve had several requests to do so,
I’m selling my photographs as a fund raiser for the trip/project.
I think there is something really beautiful about
the photograph of my past providing for the photographs of the future.

If you are interested in supporting these efforts and purposes, please follow the ordering instructions listed below.

5. I return to India and you enjoy your photographs

If you’ve been interested in buying a photograph anyway, think of it as a bonus that you’re also supporting a good cause. If you’d like to support the eMi mission and the trip, think of the photograph as token of thankfulness from me.

Either way, we both win…
and the kids win…
and I guess the printing place wins…
and of course the airline wins…
and your wall with the new photograph definitely wins…
so it seems a lot of things win by you simply buying a photograph.

So here’s to the new artwork on your wall,
new homes for Indian children,
and the furthering of a sacrificial love far beyond our own understanding.
Thank you in advance for your participation with this project and purpose.

much love to you and yours.
